Dating Deception: Signs of Catfishing & How to Deal

How to Deal with a Catfish

Do your own research

To check if someone’s pictures were taken from someone else’s online profile, try searching for their name on Google, looking through other social media sites, or even doing a reverse image search. To see whether their messages appear elsewhere, you may also look up their phone number or Google them.

Don’t share too much

Your information could be used by some catfish to attempt account hacking. Inquiries like “What’s your mother’s maiden name?” or “What’s the name of the street you grew up on” should be avoided. Never share your passwords and keep all of your financial information, including the name of your bank, confidential.

Ask specific questions that require knowledge

Ask them questions that only someone with their claimed background would know the answers to if you have any doubts that the person you are speaking to is a con artist. Try enquiring about the local eateries or perhaps a particular aspect of their line of work.

And in the end…Block them!

Always be sure to block them on social media and report their profile if you have a good feeling that someone is using you as bait online.
